Funny Movies Movies With Kevin Hart
Here's every movie Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart have starred in together, ranked from worst to best. Dwayne Johnson's very first film role was playing The Scorpion King in 2001'sThe Mummy Returns, but despite being featured prominently on the poster, his part was relatively small. Still, it led to the charismatic wrestler being granted a spinoff with The Scorpion King, which led him on the road to movie stardom. It was a bumpy ride, however, with many of his solo projects doing mediocre business. A supporting role in 2011'sFast Five changed all that, and he's now officially one of the world's highest-grossing stars.
Comedian Kevin Hart had appeared in lots of supporting roles in the likes of the divisive Scary Movie franchise and The Five-Year Engagement before breaking through as a leading man with 2014's Ride Along. Somewhere along the way, a savvy producer decided Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson would make for a good comic pairing, and to their credit, it's a partnership that works surprisingly well.
Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart have excellent onscreen chemistry, thanks to their compatible styles of humor and the inherent tension created by their "odd couple" pairing. Often, their differences in size are mined for comedic gold. The Rock and Hart starred together in four movies thus far, and here's each one ranked worst to best.
4. Central Intelligence
Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart were first paired together in 2016's Central Intelligence, in which two former high school friends reunite when one has become a CIA agent (Johnson) while the other is an accountant (Hart). Central Intelligence cast the pair against type, with Johnson getting to go over the top while Hart is the straight man. This was a smart choice as Central Intelligence gets considerable mileage from their chemistry, and their friendship is undeniably sweet. The issue is the film around them is a generic buddy comedy featuring a plot so forgettable its easy to imagine the filmmakers didn't really care about it either.
3. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
Hobbs & Shaw is very much based on the macho chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which was first displayed in Fate Of The Furious. Hart makes a cameo in Hobbs & Shaw, where he plays an Air Marshall who helps out the titular characters. Hart's inclusion is by no means essential to the story, but he appears in one of the film's funnier scenes.
2. Jumanji: The Next Level
After theJumanjireboot was anunexpected smash hit, the sequel Jumanji: The Next Levelwas a given. The sequel sees Johnson return as video game avatar Xander Bravestone and Hart is Franklin "Mouse" Finbar, while Danny Glover and Danny DeVito are new additions to the cast line-up. The Next Level is a fun, fluffy adventure that follows the basic template of 2017's Welcome To The Jungle, but lacks the freshness and heart of that entry.
1. Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle is the belated sequel to the 1995 Robin Williams adventure, and against all odds, it turned to be one of 2017's most purely enjoyable blockbusters. It swapped out the Jumanji board game for a video game instead, with the story having a lot of fun with gaming mechanics and playing up the intentional one-note avatars of the teens trapped in the game. Karen Gillan and Jack Black round out Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle's cast, and while the movie — like most of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart's collaborations — rides on cast chemistry over story, there's a genuine warmth to it too. Given that the two Johnson/Hart Jumanji movies have collectively grossed nearly $2 billion, it's a safe bet the franchise will continue for the foreseeable future.
Upcoming The Rock & Kevin Hart Movies
The next Dwayne "The Rock Johnson and Kevin Hart movie together isDC League of Super-Pets, an animated movie focusing on the heroic — and comedic — lives of the pets of DC's finest superheroes. Johnson voices Superman's dog Krypto, while Hart voices Ace, a dog who recently acquired superpowers. DC League of Super-Pets arrives in theaters on May 20, 2022, mere months before Johnson suits up in live-action as DC's Black Adam. Just about the only thing they haven't done together is be dogs, so this should be a hoot.
What We Know About Jumanji 4
A fourth Jumanji movie — the third starring Johnson and Hart — is also currently in development, but so far doesn't have a title or release timeframe. Producers have asserted that it is definitely going to happen, however, andJumanji 4 will certainly see the return of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart's avatars, at least in part, if it does indeed come to fruition. The story forJumanji 4 hasn't been revealed yet, but it would likely riff off ofJumanji: The Next Level's mid-credits scene, in which Spencer's mom and a mechanic get sucked into the game, and some of Jumanji's animals escape into the real world. This marks the first time in the reboot movies that anything from the game has crossed over into real life, and signals a more direct return to the original Robin Williams movie. This also opens the possibility thatJumanji 4 will see the video game avatars (played by Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Johnson, and Hart) interact with the teenage kids who have been playing them. As for whenJumanji 4 could release, it's likely not to happen for a little while yet, asDwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart have other projects they are currently working on.
